When day is done

And heaven gently kisses earth

With goodnight’s sleep,

When daylight fades

And shadows of darkness fall,

I shall not fear but look up

To heaven’s brilliant stars like

Home-lights shining brightly high above

And wait for the cold, dark

Lonely night to pass

And the golden light

Of vernal dawn to shine…

When day is all done

And the cold dark night’s shadows

Swallow the colors of light,

When we finally lie down

Through a long, peaceful night

Bereft of dawn oblivious

To the changing seasons,

Then we will come to understand

That the earth had wanted us back to herself,

That she had wanted us back to her eternal womb

To nourish the gardens

Of lilies and roses

And gardenias and jasmines

That bloom from seeds to flowers

To sweet-smelling fragrance

Which floats heavenward.

When day is done

And all flesh fails

Earth will declare itself triumphant

As tiny seeds and grasses of green

Emerge once again

From the ground.

  1. Lovely poem. I like the way you put together your thoughts in a vivid way.
