Sweet Summer-End
(For my sisters Paz Aurora, Leticia and Brenda)

Oh, don’t let go of Summer
Warm cup of sunshine and laughter
Of daylight securely captured
In a tranquil heart unperturbed.

Don’t come yet September
With your torrential tears
And reluctant departures
From boisterous youthful years,
Bidding clear blue skies
And colorful landscapes goodbye.

Summer stay and linger awhile
Coat the rooftops of our homes
With soft, clear clouds of remembering
While I hasten to gather
Precious minutes

To fill my half-filled
Cup of sweet memories
Of family and friends
Of youthful games and carefree adventures
Under a warm and quiet sun.
